CAT C-16 / C-15 Diesel Engine Specs for Heavy-Duty Trucks

Caterpillar C-16 Truck Engines offer a wide operating range and high torque rise which promotes the use of transmissions with fewer gears. Even with this built-in feature, heavy/specialty haulers must remember their trucks should be geared to achieve the appropriate compromise between startability and desired road speed. Typical loads of 80 000 Ib or less are less affected by improper drive train specing than are heavy haulers. In general, either application shares one similar recommendation - gear fast/run slow is essential for good fuel consumption. If any of the following conditions are present, special attention should be given to proper transmission and axle specifications. A complete Caterpillar Truck Engine Pro (TEP) C-16 analysis is available from your local Caterpillar or truck dealer. Caterpillar D2 Diesel Tractor, 1938

The Caterpillar D2 diesel engine required a gas fueled pony motor to crank the diesel up to speed. The pony motor originally was recoil starting, but later models were electric start. The operator would start the pony motor and when the diesel engine was up to running speed and hot enough, about 15 minutes, the operator would turn on the diesel fuel valve and, hopefully, the fuel would fire and Cat D2 engine would run start running. The operator would shut off the gas flow to the pony motor and release the clutch to disengage it from the diesel engine. It was a little more complicated than this, what with releasing the decomp and other manipulations... Cat D2 weighed between 6000 and 6700 lbs. Caterpillar D2 was manufactured from 1938 through 1956. How Catalytic Converters Work

If you’re interested in vehicles as well as keeping our Earth safe, you may be interested in learning more about catalytic converters and how these important devices help to combat against pollution. These devices are a great way to help keep the air around us clean. While this is a hot topic, many people have questions about the use of catalytic converters. Take a look at the following information to learn more about catalytic converters. What is a catalytic converter? A catalytic converter is a device that helps to turn toxic byproducts found in an engine into less toxic substances through the use of chemical reactions. As a car runs, the catalytic converter turns pollutants into less harmful substances before they leave a vehicle through the exhaust pipe . This can help to clean up the air significantly! Are catalytic converters only found in standard automobiles? No! While they are found in standard automobiles, they are also in many other machines. This includes buse
