CAT 3126B Engine Specs for Yachts / Boats / Trucks

The Cat 3126B engine is designed and built to take full advantage of a “gear fast, run slow” strategy. Unlike mechanically governed engines of the past, the fully electronic 3126B need not be gear-bound to limit maximum vehicle speed — this should be done using Vehicle Speed Limiting (VSL) and Protection.

Caterpillar 312B Engine

For the best balance of performance and fuel economy, spec axle ratios and tire sizes to obtain: 2000 rpm @ 60 mph (97 km/h) subject to the following: Maximum cruise speed of 65 mph (105 km/h) or below. Maximum recommended engine speed at cruise — 2400 rpm. Minimum recommended engine speed at a cruise speed of 55 mph (89 km/hr) — 1800 rpm.

CAT 3126B Gearing Considerations

Depending on the application, the absolute minimum startability in first gear should be 6 percent, preferably in excess of 10 %.

Caterpillar 312B Engine Specs

On/off highway severe service applications will require considerably greater startability. Minimum gradeability should be 1.5 percent (1.8 percent recommended) at peak torque in top gear, and 0.5 percent at cruise rpm.

Caterpillar 312B Engine Specifications

To further optimize the matching of your truck to the performance characteristics of the engine, a computerized spec’ing tool called Caterpillar Truck Engine Pro (TEP) is offered by your Caterpillar dealer. It calculates the effects of various driveline variables on engine operation such as transmissions, axles, and tires. This lets you see the results before you finalize your truck specs.

I didn't know that the CAT 3126 engine was installed on yachts! What types of vessels is this motor available for? Big or small boats?

CAT C-16 / C-15 Diesel Engine Specs for Heavy-Duty Trucks

Caterpillar C-16 Truck Engines offer a wide operating range and high torque rise which promotes the use of transmissions with fewer gears. Even with this built-in feature, heavy/specialty haulers must remember their trucks should be geared to achieve the appropriate compromise between startability and desired road speed. Typical loads of 80 000 Ib or less are less affected by improper drive train specing than are heavy haulers. In general, either application shares one similar recommendation - gear fast/run slow is essential for good fuel consumption. If any of the following conditions are present, special attention should be given to proper transmission and axle specifications. A complete Caterpillar Truck Engine Pro (TEP) C-16 analysis is available from your local Caterpillar or truck dealer. How Catalytic Converters Work

If you’re interested in vehicles as well as keeping our Earth safe, you may be interested in learning more about catalytic converters and how these important devices help to combat against pollution. These devices are a great way to help keep the air around us clean. While this is a hot topic, many people have questions about the use of catalytic converters. Take a look at the following information to learn more about catalytic converters. What is a catalytic converter? A catalytic converter is a device that helps to turn toxic byproducts found in an engine into less toxic substances through the use of chemical reactions. As a car runs, the catalytic converter turns pollutants into less harmful substances before they leave a vehicle through the exhaust pipe . This can help to clean up the air significantly! Are catalytic converters only found in standard automobiles? No! While they are found in standard automobiles, they are also in many other machines. This includes buse
